Where to Publish: Library Tips & Strategies for Junior Faculty

Scholarly Communication

Scholarly communication can be defined as “the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use. The system includes both formal means of communication, such as publication in peer-reviewed journals, and informal channels, such as electronic listservs.”

Open Access Publishing

Open Access publishing was developed in response to the high cost of journal subscription costs and the demand for access to research results in scientific fields. For more information about Open Access, check out our Open Access library guide that includes our campuses Open Access Scholarship and Creative Works Repository Policy.

Untenured faculty who publish in open access journals should consider: you may have to pay large fees to publish your articles and the open access journal may not be considered as prestigious in your department or field.
