SEARCHING ERIC? Know the difference between an EJ and an ED??

When you search ERIC, you're actually searching different kinds of materials.

  • There's the journal and magazine articles
  • And there's the documents that have been submitted to ERIC by teachers, administrators and researchers just like you

  • Journal Articles are given a 6-digit Accession Number that begins with the letters EJ (example from ERIC)
  • Documents (they might be lesson plans, book announcements, grant reports, and more) have an Accession Number that begins with an ED (example from ERIC)

What's the difference?

  1. ERIC Documents (EDs) are considered "unpublished."
  2. ERIC Documents are rarely peer-reviewed

Which ones are in full-text?

  • A growing number of ERIC Documents are available online.  Look for the PDF link when you see an ERIC Document
  • We have many more ERIC Documents in our libary, in our MICROFICHE collection on the Main floor.  Just ask at the Information Desk
  • Many EJ's (articles) are available online through our library's website. Use the JOURNALS tab to locate your article by searching for the journal name.

"Which EDUCATION journals do you have?"

Because Education is a multidisciplinary field, it's a more challenging question than you might think.  Here are some ways to answer that question.

Here are the journals that we own (or have online access to):
