ARTstor Search Strategies

Using the advanced search tool in ARTstor, you can limit your results to single or multiple categories, including:

  • Graphic design and illustration
  • Drawing
  • Decorative arts, utilitarian objects and interior design

You also have the ability to limit to a time period. The following are some rough date ranges for periods in the history or art and design. Try using these to narrow your search:

  • Victorian ---- 1837-1901
  • Arts & Crafts ---- 1850-1914
  • Art Nouveau ---- 1880-1910
  • Modernism ---- 1880-1940
  • Art Deco ---- 1910-1939
  • Bauhaus ---- 1919-1933
  • Organic Design ---- 1930-1960
  • American Kitsch ---- 1940-1960
  • Minimalism ---- 1967-1978
  • Pop Art ---- 1958-1972
  • Postmodernism ---- 1978-
  • Deconstruktivism ---- 1988-

Saving to an Image Group

Screen shot of the pop up window that appears when you create a new image group, where you can choose to save "to me" or "my institution" which would make it discoverable by others at New Paltz

Shows the export menu from inside an image group, with two options: PowerPoint, and zip file

  1. On each image you view in ARTstor, you'll be given the option to download it or add it to an "image group" which is just a folder of images you manage.
  2. If you choose to add your image to an image group, you'll be given the opportunity to create and name a new group or select from your existing groups.
  3. When you create a new group, you can choose whether to share it with others at New Paltz or just keep it linked to your account only.
  4. Once you have created a group of images, click the download button to export images and all their metadata to PowerPoint or a zip folder.
