Annual Librarywide Goals forms

STL began using this template in 2015.  Close the loop reports are due from each library team, and from the dean's office, in October 2016, at which time those groups will submit 2016-17 annual goals.

Recent assessments and assessment projects underway

  • August 2014 - December 2014 First Year Composition I Library Instruction Outcomes Quiz
  • January 2015 - March 2015 First Year Composition Library Instruction Readiness Quiz
  • January 2015 - ongoing periodic student learning assessments in composition library instruction sessions
  • January 2015 - ongoing Library instruction librarians develop an online form to track courses and course levels; numbers of students; demographics; and learning outcomes for its library sessions and drop-in workshops
  • July 2015 STL hires a full-time Planning, Assessment & User Experience Librarian
  • August 2015 STL Information Literacy Coordinator attends Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) "Program Immersion" Institute; the Institute is designed to help librarians develop program plans and outcomes for their educational initiatives
  • August 2015 Library Instruction Librarians attend an all-day "teaching & learning outcomes workshop" with SUNY Geneseo professor Brian Morgan
  • Fall 2015: periodic observations of STL library instruction sessions by the STL Information Literacy Coordinator
  • Fall 2015: Library Leadership Team approves an annual goals-setting form to be used by the four (4) standing library teams annually with close-the loop reports due in October 2016; it develops a plan to employ the form with the STL's standing working groups on a incremental basis.
  •  Fall 2015: Planning Librarian and IT Librarian employ Heatmap.it online tool to assess library users' engagement with the library's website. 
  • Spring 2016: Library deploys online and paper surveys, suggestion box and guest books to gather feedback about the renovation. The findings are discussed and action plans developed by the Shared Services Task Force and the Library Leadership Team.
  • Spring 2016: STL subscribes to LibAnalytics, a tool to better track research transactions.  Data are collected and discoverable by time, date, type of question, time spent on the transaction, and other attributes
  • Spring 2016: Planning Librarian and IT Librarian investigate Tableau, an online data visualization tool.  Several librarians attend workshops to enhance their skills with Qualtrics survey software in preparation for new assessment initiatives.
  • Fall 2016: Planning Librarian and UX student assistant present a series of brown-bag staff workshops on Middle States Standards, Projects that align with Campus Essential Initiatives 5 & 8, and strategies for setting team and personal goals.
  • Fall 2016: Library develops and infographic tool to assist staff and teams in setting meaningful and measurable annual goals. 
  • Fall 2016: Planning librarian attends workshops and gains facility with INZight, a data visualization tool.
  • Fall 2016 - Spring 2017: Librarians develop online forms to obtain data regarding database trial requests and journal subscription requests from faculty.  Data will be used to improve decision on new acquisitions and clarify library expenditures.
  • Fall 2018: Library Instruction teaching group modifies Instruction request form.
  • Spring 2019: Library conducts a SWOT Analysis to inform planning process

Charters

Charters are a method of constituting a group or setting up a project.  

In addition to codifying who is part of the initiative and what resources are available, charters enumerate goals and expectations (i.e., outcomes), deadlines, measures of progress and reporting strategies.  STL has used charters for numerous projects.  Some examples appear below.
