Try searching your artist's name: last, first, as a subject to find books about them / exhibition catalogs.
For lesser known artists, you may not be able to find a whole book dealing with their work. You can also try a Keyword search for their name in quotes to find books in which there is a chapter dealing with their work.
The Sojourner Truth Library uses the Library of Congress Classification System to organize and shelve most library items. The following list of LC call numbers can help you navigate our collection and locate resources on Photography and Photographers:

Applied photography is where you will find exhibition catalogs and books about specific artists.
This video covers how to use the "Search our Library" search box, which is currently searching only online materials, to search for ebooks in the Library's collection. To locate ebooks specifically and narrow to useful materials, use the left menu bar which allows you refine by Resource type, year of publication and more.
You can also search directly in any of the ebook databases listed below.
The Sojourner Truth Library uses the Library of Congress Classification System for the call numbers it assigns to most of the items in its collections, including Reference, in-depth books (Stacks), and Media. Because books are classified by subject, you can often find several helpful books on the same shelf, or nearby.
