The Library has gathered the most frequently used services for instructors, to help you easily navigate the Library remotely.

Asynchronous Library Instruction Options

Librarians are using a number of asynchronous teaching tools to deliver library instruction. Here are some examples of modules that have been developed, and used in online courses. Please reach out to your instruction Librarian to discussion what options are available for meeting your curricular goals for Library instruction. We are experimenting with new formats and modes of delivery, and are ready to collaborate!


  1. Develop a course-specific Research Guide
  2. Use an existing discipline Research Guide
  3. Develop worksheets on library topics. 
  4. Use Google Forms as an online worksheet. 
  5. Create specific video tutorials on a library topic. 
  6. Create a screencast on a library topic, like this screencast about zine making, or this screencast about searching with Search Our Library. 
  7. Embed a Librarian in your D2L Brightspace course! We can engage a number of tools on the D2L Brightspace platform on a variety of library topics. (One Librarian is currently developing a virtual "library scavenger hunt" that will be delivered using Discussion Boards.)

Synchronous Library Instruction Options

The Library will continue to offer a full range of instruction to support your courses. Some options for synchronous, virtual instruction include:

  1. "Meet your Librarian" introduction session. This would include a brief introduction to the Librarian working with your course. 
  2. "Introduction to the Remote Library" This would include an introductory level orientation to our online catalog, databases, journals, and services. 
  3. Real-time, virtual library instruction sessions. This would be structured much like what we have done in-person, in the past. These sessions are typically tailored to the needs of the class.
  4. "Research Q+A" This would include time for students to ask a Librarian questions about their research.
