Music to 1750

What's Oxford (Grove) Music Online, and why should I use it?

Oxford Music Online is a very comprehensive encyclopedia of music history and style.  It is an online version of several Oxford/Grove dictionaries, including ones that focus on opera and musical instruments (and jazz, and American music....)

With one search you can weave a web of composers , places, performance venues, publishing and recording companies, styles, instruments....who worked and performed when & where; who studied with whom or influenced someone else; and who invented what.

All the articles are written by major scholars in music, and each includes links to additional resources including texts, sound files, articles and music scores.
