Primary Sources

Works written by the philosopher are considered primary sources.

  • In the Library Catalog and in WorldCat:
    • search for the philosopher as the "author," rather than as the "subject," or the "keyword."
  • In a digital archive:

Secondary Sources

Works written after the writing of the primary source. Works that  provide commentary, discussion, analysis on the primary source,

Secondary sources are published in books, journals, and magazines.  Search the Library Catalog, WorldCat, the Philosopher's Index, JSTOR, and other scholarly databases for the name of the philosopher (author of the primary source) as "subject," or "keyword."
