Who's Citing Me? Searching for Cited References

This guide is designed to gather all the tools and resources available to New Paltz faculty when searching for cited references or citation counts for their publications. Useful when preparing for promotion and tenure.

Cited Reference Search in ScienceDirect

ScienceDirect (part of the SciVerse "hub") is a publisher aggregate database of journal articles (and some book content) published by Elsevier, a major academic publisher.  Coverage focuses on science and medicine, with some coverage of social sciences and humanities (particularly management, economics, psychology, and linguistics.) To search for cited references that can be found in Elsevier journals, start on the opening screen.  Instead of using the quick search boxes at the top, click on Search and open up the drop-down box and search specifically for References.

Enter the name of the author: last name, first initial.  Try putting quotation marks around the last name and first initial if you get too many results, and add any other criteria to narrow such as year, subject, etc.  This will bring a list of all the citing articles indexed in the database. You can set up an alert for this kind of search.
