EDI 775 Seminar in Reading

"What strategies have been successfully employed to promote empowerment or gradual release of responsibility in elementary school student writing?"

We might think of the search this way:

"gradual release of reponsibility"

 OR

"student responsibility"

OR

empowerment

writing "Elementary education"

We might also consider "scaffolding" as a term, as scaffolding incorporates the idea of providing customized support and then gradually taking it away as the student develops independence

The search result might look like this

This is what the search might look like in Google Scholar

And here is a "scaffolding" search incorporating  discursive/argumentative/critical/persuasive writing and elementary education

"What strategies have been successful in using graphic organizers to improve students' persuasive writing?"

Here, while each of the terms --persuasive [discourse], writing, and graphic organizers -- all work fine on their own, theer are relatively few that combine all three terms.  One solution is to use a broder term for at least one of them

For example, for "persuasive discourse" you might consider rhetorical writing, rhetoric, argumentation or argumentative writing.
