Recent assessments and assessment projects underway

  • August 2014 - December 2014 First Year Composition I Library Instruction Outcomes Quiz
  • January 2015 - March 2015 First Year Composition Library Instruction Readiness Quiz
  • January 2015 - ongoing periodic student learning assessments in composition library instruction sessions
  • January 2015 - ongoing Library instruction librarians develop an online form to track courses and course levels; numbers of students; demographics; and learning outcomes for its library sessions and drop-in workshops
  • July 2015 STL hires a full-time Planning, Assessment & User Experience Librarian
  • August 2015 STL Information Literacy Coordinator attended Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) "Program Immersion" Institute; the Institute is designed to help librarians develop program plans and outcomes for their educational initiatives
  • August 2015 Library Instruction Librarians attended an all-day "teaching & learning outcomes workshop" with SUNY Geneseo professor Brian Morgan
  • Fall 2015: periodic observations of STL library instruction sessions by the STL Information Literacy Coordinator
  • Fall 2015: Library Leadership Team approves an annual goals-setting form to be used by the four (4) standing library teams annually with close-the loop reports due in October 2016; it develops a plan to employ the form with the STL's standing working groups on a incremental basis.
  •  Fall 2015: Planning Librarian and IT Librarian employ Heatmap.it online tool to assess library users' engagement with the library's website. 
  • Spring 2016: Library deploys online and paper surveys, suggestion box and guest books to gather feedback about the renovation. The findings are discussed and action plans developed by the Shared Services Task Force and the Library Leadership Team.
  • Spring 2016: STL subscribes to LibAnalytics, a toll to better track research transactions.  Data are collected and discoverable by time.date, type of question, time spent on the transaction, and other attributes
  • Spring 2016: Planning Librarian and IT Librarian investigate Tableau, an online data visualization tool.  Several librarians attend workshops to enhance their skills with Qualtrics survey software in preparation for new assessment initiatives.
  • January 2019: Library conducts a SWOT Analysis ot inform goal setting
  • May 2019:  Library conducts a survey of its student assistants to learn how jobs at STL impact their social and academic lives.
  • August -December 2019: A usability committee is formed to examine user-friendliness of the library's new discovery system, PRIMO.  usability test performed in December.
  • November 2019 - May 2020: Library collects stories of recent accomplishments through staff events and a Gallery Walk.  Narratives will be used to showcase library achievements and as talking points

Studies and Projects by faculty and students

STL provides a rich laboratory for studying patrons behaviors and preferences.  Faculty, students and interns will partner with teh library to study how it's being used and to assist with assessments or improvement initiatives.   Everyone at STL benefits from this new knowledge.
