Introduction

Ancestry has its roots within all of us. It is through the experiences our past ancestors have had that we can form connections with so many throughout history and a sense of community between each other. In this case study you will be able to see what life was like within early twentieth century America through the experiences of one Italian immigrant family who lived in Ravena, New York.

About the Curator

My name is Evan Montena and I am currently a senior at the State University of New York at New Paltz. I am majoring in History. From an early age, something has always fascinated me about ancestry. Although it wasn't until late 2019 that I actually started taking a deeper look into my own family ancestral roots. I believe that every family has a story which can help us understand historical events. Ancestry and family history helps us connect as family units and helps us build community through memory. My goal is that this case study will help you think about your family roots through a historical lens and how their decisions have influenced the ways in which you live your life today.
