When sharing content from electronic resources, make certain that you have copied and pasted the Permalink, not a Dynamic Link.
Dynamic Links are the links that we see in the browser address bar.
Dynamic Links won't work over time, because they include search session information and time out. In addition, Dynamic Links do not include the STL Proxy URL prefix. The STL Proxy URL is the coding that directs the library user to log into the database that houses the content.
The tabs on the library website entitled Search Our Library and Catalog, both provide Permalinks for each record. Please see the Search Our Library tab for examples.
The library databases also offer Permalinks for each item. Please see the Link to Articles & Ebooks in Databases and Link to Videos tabs for examples.
Some library Permalinks include the STL Proxy URL prefix, or other coding, to assure that users who click the Permalink when off campus will be directed to login to the database with their SUNY New Paltz username and password.
However, some databases do not include this necessary information. It is imperative that you test your Permalink from off campus to make certain it will work. In addition, you can add the STL Proxy URL to the Permalink yourself, using the STL Proxy URL Generator featured on the Generate STL Proxy URL Prefix tab.
